Morse Code - The First Digital Mode
Proficiency in Morse Code is no longer a requirement to get an amateur radio licence. However, the number of CW operators in the amateur radio world is growing every year. There are organizations that promote CW, clubs that teach CW, and many on-line tools to help people learn. It is particularly popular with QRP operators who use simple low power radios.
Several YARA members are active CW'ers and have participated in CW contests organized by different sponsors. They also meet on-the-air a three times a week and are sometimes joined by operators from the province of BC.
VY1KX, Allen, ran a popular winter YARA CW workshop for several months until people started dropping out to pursue other activities in the long summer evenings.
